Home Obedience Puppy Manners For puppies under 5 months of age when class begins &/or toy breeds under 6 months.  (Please note that this age range is flexible, depending on the puppy's size, confidence level, mental maturity, etc.  If you are uncertain as to whether or not this is the best class for your puppy, email us.) Beginning Home Obedience For dogs over 5 months of age. (Please note that this age range is flexible, depending on the puppy's size, confidence level, mental maturity, etc.  If you are uncertain as to whether or not this is the best class for your puppy, email us.)  Lots of work on basic obedience & control, including controlled walking, sit, down & stand stay, come, sit for greeting, go to a rug & lie down. Advanced Home Obedience For dogs over 6 months of age who have successfully completed Beginning Home Obedience with Family Dog.  Dogs must be rock solid around distractions.  Drop on recall & stays out of sight are introduced.   Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.
CGC, Rally & Therapy CGC Practice & Prep For dogs who have successfully completed Advanced Home Obedience. Class continues to practice basic exercises plus off-leash control.  Graduates of this class will be prepared to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, which is open to all breeds, regardless of pedigree.  Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.
Canine Good Citizen Test We offer the AKC Canine Good Citizen test several times every year.  The test is open to purebred and mixed breed dogs, students and non-students.  Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming tests.
Rally Obedience For dogs over 6 months of age who have successfully completed Beginning Home Obedience and/or Advanced Home Obedience with Family Dog.  Dogs must be rock solid around distractions.  Rally is the fun new sport that combines aspects of agility and obedience.  Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.
Therapy 
Dog 
There is nothing like the feeling you experience when you see your dog bring joy, love and happiness to a child or adult in need.  This class is for dogs who have earned their CGC.  Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.
Miscellaneous Kids 'N Canines Designed specifically for kids and their dogs, these classes are intended to give children an introduction to proper dog handling in a fun, positive environment.  Classes cover a little bit of everything.  Various classes and workshops are offered for different age groups.   Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.
Field Trips & Special Interest Family Dog is always happy to develop classes for specific interest groups.  If your scout troop, 4-H group or daughter's birthday party would like a program tailored just for them, we can do it!   We have experience creating all kinds of one-time, short and long-term workshops, classes & seminars.  Contact us for more information.
Private Lessons The Family Dog staff is always available for private lessons to help with specific issues, such as housebreaking, behavior problems, etc.  Contact us for more information.
Breed Ring Beginning Handling Instructional classes for dogs over 4 months of age and/or beginning handlers. The basics of hand-stacking, free-stacking, baiting, gaiting & ring procedures are introduced. Bring dogs to first class on any type of collar & leash. Bring dog treats, also. Advanced Handling For dogs with basic breed ring control & handlers with a working knowledge of stacking, baiting, gaiting and ring procedures. Bring dogs & current training equipment the first week.  Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.  
Handling Practice For dogs & handlers that want to get in some drop-in conformation handling practice. Instruction & suggestions available! Cost: $15.00 for the first dog, $5 for each additional dog.  Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.

Beginning Flyball Flyball is a great activity for dogs who love to jump and retrieve a tennis ball.  Bring dogs & current training equipment the first week. Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.
Beginning Tracking Teach your dog to follow a human track. For dogs that have completed Advanced Home Obedience or Advanced Competition Obedience. First class meets at Family Dog. Tricks & Games  For dogs who have successfully completed Advanced Home Obedience. Class teaches lots of fun tricks & takes requested from students. Click here for more info & schedule of upcoming classes.
Competition Obedience Attention, Foundation & Footwork For dogs with basic control on leash. (Out-of control dogs & those with significant behavior problems should take Beginning Home Obedience before this class.) Class introduces heeling with attention, fronts & finishes, sit, down, stand & come, plus footwork. Bring the dogs on any collar & leash the first week. Advanced Attention & Footwork Continuation of previous class with ongoing work to overcome distractions.  Class works on the finer points of heeling with attention and footwork.  Dogs learn to solve problems and figure out how to succeed as the drop-on-recall and utility hand signals are introduced.  Click here for schedule of upcoming classes.
Retrieving Positive method of teaching any dog to retrieve, whether it is a natural retriever or not!  Developed by Kathy Lang, this approach is based on behavior modification.  It's fascinating to watch the dogs learn how to "push the button" and "open the cookie dispenser."  Click here for schedule of upcoming classes.
Beginning Open  This class continues working on the retrieve and introduces jumping.  High, bar and broad jumps are introduced at low heights.  Ongoing work with signals and drop-on-recall.  Click here for schedule of upcoming classes.
Continuing Open A continuation of the previous class.  Click here for schedule of upcoming classes.
Beginning Utility  Directed retrieve, moving stand, scent articles, go-outs, directed jumping and hand signals are all part of the utility curriculum.  Click here for schedule of upcoming classes.

Heeling, Fronts & Finishes This where heeling really comes together.  The handlers learn how to reduce the amount of food rewards used and lengthen the dog's concentration between them.  Heeling off leash is introduced.  Various techniques for accurate fronts and finishes are reviewed.  Click here for schedule of upcoming classes.
Novice Ring Prep For students who have gone through the competition program and are getting ready to enter the AKC, CKC or UKC ring to earn their titles.  All aspects of handling, regulations, ring procedures, etc., are covered.  Click here for schedule of upcoming classes.
